Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

Two scrapbooks: one entitled “My Trip to Novia Scotia”. Mrs. Dessens was part of a group from Acadiana who left on August 13, 1930 to visit Novia Scotia. The group was going to attend the “Celebration of the 175th anniversary of the Acadians Exile.” They returned to Acadiana on August 29, 1930.

Volume 1 is a scrapbook of newspaper clippings and handwritten notes pertaining to her trip.

Volume 2 is a miscellaneous collection on the Evangeline tradition in St. Martinville, Louisiana, and on the making of the movie, Evangeline, starring Delores Del Rio, much of which was filmed in St. Martinville.

Mrs. Dessens loaned the scrapbooks to the University Archives and Acadiana Manuscripts Collection with permission to microfilm for the collection.
