Series D contains general correspondence and subject files from ESB's two Senate terms, 1920 to 1933.

There is some overlap in the subject file categories. For example, correspondence regarding military academy appointments is found under both "academies" and "Navy: Naval academy appointments." Also, look for legislation materials under both "bills" and "legislation."

ESB's subject files contain a few categories which have a large quantity of correspondence and related materials. Two of these are "Prohibition" and "Flood." Materials related to the 1927 flood are included in the latter.

The "Soldiers" subject file precedes other "S" subjects.
