Scope and Contents
This collection contains correspondence, speeches, his autobiography and memoirs, photographs, financial documents, and materials (telegrams, newspaper clippings) concerning his death. The collection also includes some materials (thesis, correspondence, and school reports) from Sadie Harris Baskin, Harris’s daughter.
Sadie Harris Baskin donated the collection.

Biographical / Historical
Thomas H. Harris was the Louisiana State Superintendent of Public Schools from 1908 to 1940. He was born in Arizona, LA into a preacher's family and attended many different schools, including Louisiana State Normal School at Natchitoches, University of Chicago, Harvard University, University of Iowa, and Louisiana State University. During and after his schooling, Harris held various teaching positions and served as principal at several different schools. For most of his career, he was Louisiana Superintendent of Education.
