Biographical / Historical
The Louisiana Gulf Coast Oil Expedition (LAGCOE) was organized in 1955 as a non-profit corporation to promote a better understanding and appreciation of the part played by the oil industry in Louisiana society. This biannual event is located in Lafayette, and is the heart of Louisiana’s land and offshore oil activity. LAGCOE alternates with an oil show called “Permain Basin Oil Show” which is held in Odessa, Texas.
LAGCOE is known as the “working Man’s oil show”. It started out with all volunteer workers, with the show secretary and the labor on the show grounds. LAGCOE Looney is an honorary position given to an oilman who worked on the rigs.
