Biographical / Historical
The Altrusa International Club Inc. was organized April 11, 1917 in Nashville, Tennessee with a total of 19 members. A Lafayette club was organized on April 3, 1956 with 23 members. The Club was chartered by Altrusa International, Inc. on Nov. 4, 1957 and was incorporated in April 1968.
The first major project of the Altrusa Club of Lafayette was the Mental Health Treatment Center, now known as the Acadiana Mental Health Center, which continues to receive the club’s support. They are also sponsors of educational projects for handicapped children.
