Orther Charles Mouton was born 5 October 1858, the son of Charles Alexandre Homer (C.H.) and Henriette Celimene Dupré Mouton. He married Elia Martin (1858-1916) on 25 June 1886. They had two daughters, Ruth (who married Dr. C.E. Hamilton) and Annie (who married Louis Hebert). Mouton studied law under his brother-in-law, Judge Conrad Debaillon. After being admitted to the bar, he practiced law in Lafayette with Debaillon, succeeding him as District Judge in 1900. Mouton died 20 November 1937 and is buried in St. John Cemetery in Lafayette.
Conrad Debaillon was born 19 February 1846 near Opelousas, the son of Evariste and Alexandrine Louaillier Debaillon. He was educated at Grand Coteau and served in the Confederate Army. After the war, he studied law under C.H. Mouton and was admitted to the bar in 1870. On 18 June 1872, he married Louise Charlotte Mouton, daughter of C.H. Mouton, his mentor. The couple had nine children, one daughter and eight sons. Debaillon and C.H. Mouton formed a highly successful partnership to practice law in Lafayette. In 1884 he was elected district judge, a position he continued to hold until his retirement in 1904. Debaillon died in Lafayette on 25 February 1907 and was buried in St. John Cemetery.
