This collection consists of her working files which include genealogy, letters, journals, correspondence, writings, publications, and other professional materials. The collection also contains Robert Webb's working files, such as biographical, professional, and personal materials.
William C. Schear, Bernice Webb's son, donated the collection.

Biographical / Historical
Dr. Bernice Webb was a professor of English, biographer, and poet. Born on February 5, 1920 in Kansas, she received her B.A., M.A., and doctorate in English from the University of Kansas. After marrying Robert Webb, she traveled the world teaching on the SS University Campus-World Campus Afloat.
Dr. Webb began her career at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) in 1961 as an Assistant Professor of English. From 1967 to 1980, she was an Associate Professor of English, and then a Professor of English from 1980-1987.
Dr. Webb’s major publications include The Basketball Man: James Naismith, Beware of Ostriches, Poetry on the Stage: William Poel, Producer of Verse Drama, Lady Doctor on a Homestead: The Thomas County Years, 1879-1890, and many others. She co-authored a biography with Johnnie Allan entitled Born to Be a Loser: The Jimmy Donley Story.
Dr. Webb passed away on March 19, 1999 in Kansas. She is buried in Oberlin Cemetery, Kansas.
