Scope and Contents
This collection consists of scrapbooks and photograph albums from the Johnny Scott Center (1961/62 to 1964/65) and Northside Central Elementary School PTA (1953/54 to 1960/61) Special Education programs in Lafayette Parish Schools.

Biographical / Historical
Thetis A. Cusimano was born in Fayetteville, AR on June 25, 1946 and moved to Lafayette, LA when she was 10. Her parents were Amos Edwin Simpson and Anne Key Simpson. She earned a Bachelor’s degree at University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) and a Master’s degree at University of Wisconsin. For almost 30 years, Ms. Cusimano worked as a teacher for special education, including as principal of LeRosen Special Education Center. She was also a devoted member of the League of Women Voters of Louisiana, acting as president for two years. She died in 2019 at the age of 72, survived by her husband, Dr. Richard C. Cusimano, her children, and grandchildren.
