Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This collection contains commercial audio recordings from the personal record collections of Malcolm L. Comeaux and his cousin, the late Lauren C. Post, geographers, authors, and researchers of Louisiana Acadian and Cajun cultures. Some of the recordings were given to Comeaux by Post. Musical genres and styles in the collection include Cajun, Creole, swamp pop, zydeco, country, western swing, and folk music. Also included are a number of commercial recordings of Cajun humor and tales. Rare 78 rpm, vinyl LP 33 1/3 rpm, and several 45 rpm vinyl recordings in the collection represent the recording history of Louisiana Cajun and Creole musicians from 1928 to the late 1980's. Several historical 78 rpm record storage binders and related correspondence about the recordings and donation to Special Collections are also part of the collection. Malcolm Comeaux donated the collection in 2003.
