This collection includes Conveyance Research records, Land Grant certificates, Abstracts of titles, etc. This collection has been digitized. The Aurelien Breaux Land Grants documents were loaned to us to digitize for our collection by Annadine P. Credeur of Scott, Louisiana.

Scope and Contents This collection initially consisted of a portrait and a land grant. Azema Demarais, the granddaughter of Louis George Demaret and raised at the old family home on the Bayou Teche, is the subject of the portrait that is currently displayed in the Jefferson Caffery Reading Room. There is a little damage on the left edge facing the portrait, which according to oral family history, was inflicted by a Union soldier. The 1786 land grant is written in Spanish. Scope and Contents

Homestead land grant assigned to Marie Hebert, widow of Jean Jacques Hebert from New Orleans land office dated 20 May 1882. Grant is for 80 and 38/100 acres in T 11 S, R 4 E, north half of Southeast quarter of Section 27 in Vermilion Parish.

This collection contains Dr. Parker’s research notes on Bendel Gardens. These include published articles and deeds documenting chains of title and historical events from the early Spanish land grants to the Mouton family’s Walnut Grove Plantation, the acquisitions by fashion icon Henri Bendel, and the 1950s development of Bendel Gardens subdivision.
