Scope and Contents
This collection consists of correspondence and papers relating to the history of southwest Louisiana. These papers are mainly about the history of New Iberia and Iberia Parish. Also included is her master’s thesis submitted to Peabody College. There are other miscellaneous materials as well.

Biographical / Historical
Mary Elizabeth Winters was born 14 October 1890 in Iberia Parish, LA, the daughter of George F. and Anna Winters. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) in 1929 and a master of arts from George Peabody College in 1931. Winters taught school in north Louisiana for many years. She died 3 January 1991 in Caldwell, LA, and is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, New Iberia.
