Biographical / Historical
Emar Andrepont was born in Opelousas, LA on April 21, 1863. In the late 1880s, he opened a general store in Prairie Ronde, selling various products such as food and farm equipment. After his death in 1941, Evrand and Ryan Brown took over the store at different points of time. The store closed in the late 1980s, having stayed in business for 100 years.
Due to being a historical site, the building was relocated to Le Vieux Village in 1992. Thanks to a grant provided by the State of Louisiana and the National Parks Service, the City of Opelousas Tourism renovated and restored the building, which is now provided as an exhibit showcasing the store in its original glory.
