Scope and Contents

This collection contains mainly correspondence by Berard including many of his letters-to-the-editor printed in local papers. Also included are newspaper clipping, magazines articles about Berard and UNIFAB, and letters to Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Frances Love donated the collection.

Biographical / Historical

Dailey J. Berard attended undergraduate school at Ole Miss and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He then attended Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, graduate studies in Law and Economics. He served as a PFC in the United States Army from 1946-1948. In 1980 he founded Universal Fabricators, Inc. based on his own inventions. He was president and chairman of the Board, UNIFAB International, Inc., which is an industry leader in the custom fabrication of topside facilities, decks, jackets, equipment modules and other structures used in the development and production of oil and gas reserves. He retired in 2001 after more than 20 years as president. Berard continued to serve on the Board of Directors of the Company. He was a member of numerous industry and engineering associations. From 1951-1980 he was Petroleum Industry Executive. He also was a member of the greater Lafayette and New Iberia Chambers of Commerce, Lafayette and Evangeline Economic Development Authorities, and advisor to the Governor. He resided in New Iberia, LA.
