Biographical / Historical
Sol Wright, known as the “rice wizard”, was born in Indiana on April 22, 1852. He came to Crowley, Louisiana in 1889 and settled on his rice farm south of town, where he resided for 40 years. He died at the age of 77 on February 9, 1929. He and his wife were the first king and queen of the Crowley Rice Festival in 1927.
