Biographical / Historical
The Friends of the Humanities was established in 1989 as a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the role of the interdisciplinary humanities at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) and in Acadiana. This organization generously provides various means of support to the College of Liberal Arts and strengthens the resources of the University’s Humanities program.
The Friends of the Humanities believes learning, like friendship, is a life-long experience that goes beyond the classroom. The group meets the needs of individuals throughout the region by fostering interest in cultural issues and learning in Acadiana.
Beginning with 10 founding members, the membership of the Friends of the Humanities has grown to over 200 in just a few years. The organization’s success and rapid growth bear witness to its commitment of the continuous pursuit of knowledge and to its support of the dynamic leadership in the cultural life of Acadiana.
