Scope and Contents Boggs painted the mural “The History of Medicine in Louisiana” in 1948. This 112-foot-by-57-inch mural documents the history of medicine in Louisiana. It has been essentially in storage at Tulane Medical Center after more than 25 years on display in the offices of a medical supply company in New Orleans. This collection contains correspondence (much in French), school notebooks (in French), cashbook records, family biographical information, and miscellaneous materials. The financial records include one volume from a medical association in the 1910s and several volumes from a boarding house. There is no indication who owned or ran that business.

This collection contains several University of Louisiana at Lafayette-related materials formerly in the possession of Dr. Kenneth J. Laborde. Dr. Laborde donated the items to President Joseph Savoie in 2020 and 2021, which were then transferred to Special Collections. Items include homecoming doubloons, building blueprints, and a scrapbook on the history of medicine in Lafayette.

On March 6, 2003, Mr. Langley met with two of the last known Louisiana traiteurs in Maurice, LA, where they had a conversation about their practices and their sense of loss in the changing world. This collection contains typed draft conversations and experiences meeting with the traiteurs. The collection also contains handwritten copies of their prayers.

Folders 1-01 through 1-08 contain materials brought in by Whitney Broussard, which were loaned to UAAMC [SAMC] for photocopying. The material in folders 1-09 through 1-49 were purchased in 2001.
