Catholic Church. Colonial Records, 1576-1806
Scope and Contents
This collection has three parts. The first twelve reels contain the records of the Diocese of Louisiana and the Floridas, 1576-1803. The records were microfilmed by the University of Notre Dame (where the originals are housed) in 1967 through a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. A more complete guide to this collection is in the Louisiana Room Genealogy Collection, call number CD 3269.A2C32.
Reel 13 and 13A hold the records of Immaculate Conception Church in Natchitoches, Louisiana, 1734-1795, microfilmed by Southern Microfilm Corporation of New Orleans. Reel 13 is a positive copy, and Reel 13A is a negative copy.
The last reel holds funeral and baptismal records of St. Landry dos Opelousas Church in Opelousas, Louisiana, 1776-1806. The source of this film is not given.
The film was acquired by the Center for Louisiana Studies as an extension of the Colonial Louisiana Records Collection. That collection was transferred to the University Archives and Acadiana Manuscripts Collection in 2013.
