Biographical / Historical
Phyllis Ann Dupuis Boutte was born December 27, 1957 in Lafayette, LA. She attended University of Southwestern Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) for 2.5 years, but left due to work. Her first job was in the air force, and then 25 years as a file clerk at Lafayette Parish Health Unit.
Ms. Boutte, while in her early 20’s, was introduced to Cajun and Zydeco dancing by her mother. The two of them and Ms. Boutte’s young daughter would often go dancing with other friends at Mulate’s restaurant in Breaux Bridge. One of their friends was a choreographer who worked on Glen Pitre’s 1986 film Belizaire the Cajun. Ms. Boutte, her mother, and her daughter each got roles as extras in the film and can be seen in many scenes. She also took pictures of the production, which are in negative form.
