Content Description
Statts L. Greig and his wife Elizabeth McGregor were born in 1760 in Scotland and immigrated to the United States near the turn of the nineteenth century. They first appeared in the Louisiana census in 1810. They resided in Vermilionville (now Lafayette), Louisiana and had five children. Mrs. Greig died in 1838 and Mr. Greig in 1841. Both are buried in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Lafayette, Louisiana.
During the War of 1812, both John and his brother William, sons of Statts and Elizabeth, were on the Roster of the 15th Regiment (St. Martin). Their service was probably limited to the early months of 1815.
John Greig, the fourth child was born in 1796 in Scotland and died in Lafayette in 1851. He married Angelica Taylor in 1825 in Lafayette Parish. They had eleven children.
